Coated Metal Belts

Coated metal belts allow engineers to alter the intrinsic surface properties of a metal belt, tape, or pulley to optimize its performance for a specific function. The engineers at Belt Technologies are able to work with a virtually unlimited range of surface treatment types, including GATORCOAT®, Teflon, neoprene, and hard coat anodization. Surface treatments can be applied to one or both sides of a metal belt, tape, or pulley via coating, plating, laminating, or bonding methods. Depending on the method of application, the surface treatment can be as thin as 0.0005”.

Benefits of Metal Belt Surface Treatments

At Belt Technologies, our goal is to provide you with a conveyor system that will exceed your expectations and provide optimum product-processing results. Surface treatments provide a variety of benefits that improve the function of a metal belt, tape, or pulley. Metal belt coatingssuch as Teflon and GATORCOAThave excellent non-stick qualities.

Other benefits of metal belt surface treatments include:

  • Improved lubricity
  • Increased friction
  • Anti-stick
  • Compressibility

The benefits of surface coatings vary depending on the type of coating applied. Some surface coatings such as polyurethane, neoprene, and silicone can be used to provide pockets on a belt’s surface that will hold small components during transport. Belt Technologies has the ability to provide these coatings with specific die-cut pocket geometry. This geometry can also be combined with vacuum perforations for more positive orientation and retention of small or delicate parts during transport.

Endless metal belts can be tailored to suit a variety of applications with specialty coatings and surface treatments.

Applications of Coated Metal Belts

Coated metal belts are found in a wide variety of industries. For example, Teflon coating is an excellent way to ensure that products will not stick to the metal belt in food processing or high-temperature manufacturing environments.

Coatings such as silicone or neoprene may be used in manufacturing to aid in conveying small components that might otherwise roll off the belt and be lost. They will also increase the friction coefficient of a metal belt, tape, or pulley to overcome slipping issues and allow the belt to run at a lower tension.

Metal Belt Surface Treatment Options

Our ability to work with surface coatings for metal conveyor belts, drive tapes, and pulleys is virtually unlimited. From common coatings to specialized surface treatments, our engineers are happy to guide you in choosing the ideal coating for your application.
